MediMap now connects to the National Health Index NHI database. This allows you to:
- Search for patients by NHI number
- Auto-fill patient details (name, DOB, gender, NHI ID
- Compare MediMap data with official NHI records
- Accept or reject suggested changes
This guide walks you through the new workflow for adding or editing patient records using NHI.
Step-by-Step: Add a new Patient using NHI
Prerequisite
Your organisation must must have completed NHI registration and added credentials in MediMap.
How to Add a New Patient
Go to the Patient Search screen
Enter the NHI number in the NHI field
Click Search
The “Add” button will remain disabled until a valid NHI number is searched.
If no matching patient is found locally, click Add
You’ll be taken to the Patient Edit screen
Fields will auto-fill with verified data from the NHI database
Review the details and make any adjustments if needed
Click Save to create the patient record
Comparing Existing Patient Records
If a patient already exists in your MediMap system:
Search for the patient using their NHI number
Click into their profile
Click Compare Data in the top-right of the patient screen
You will see a side-by-side comparison of your local data vs official NHI data.
Click Accept to update your record with NHI data
Click Reject to keep your current data
Don’t forget to Save your changes

If you see "not connected" and no option to add in credentials, you may be part of a corporate. In this case, the credentials will need to be added in in the corporate settings.
