Double-sign medications need two people to be present to administer the medication to a resident.
Australia: you will need to do this manually for section 29 medications (those not classified by Medsafe).
- Click the Settings icon from the dashboard.
- Click Double Signed Medicines.
- From this page you can:
- Require double signing for all syringe drivers or nurse-initiated medicines (NIMS)
- Let people self-sign all double-sign medications
- Require double signing for any medication given to a resident under 18 years old
- Require double signing for specific controlled medicines or delivery routes
Select medication groups (such as insulins and analogues) from the Anatomical Therapeutic Chemical Classification System (ATC Codes) to set a medication from that group to be double signed
Specific Medications
To set a medication for double signing, scroll to Specific Medications
- Type the medication in the search field and select the correct one. MediMap applies the double sign immediately.
- Click Brand and make sure it shows in the double-sign medication list.
In the next relevant medication round:
- A DS will appear on the medication line to indicate that the medication requires two signatures
- The first person administers the medication, then clicks on it in the resident’s chart
- The second person reviews the medication administration, enters their username and password to confirm it's correct, and clicks Checked.
Note:
If a prescriber has used free text to chart a medication, then double sign cannot be applied.
