To be a valid prescription all medications must be prescribed in accordance with the PBS, and as stipulated in the Act and Regulations. In addition, for Schedule 8 medications according to relevant State/Territory Legislation and Controlled Substances Act.
Free Text
Where a prescriber has chosen to prescribe using Free Text this will be highlighted in blue. Free Text items cannot be used for dispensing and will not comply with eRX regulations. A prescriber will need to be contacted to select the medication from the pre-selected AMT list or asked to provide a paper script.
Schedule 4 medicines
Prescription only medicine - these medicines can only be dispensed by a pharmacist.
Schedule 8 medicines
Prescribers must re-script s8 medications in line with the PBS requirements, (streamline, phone, written authority) for the charting to be used as a prescription for dispense and claiming.
If the medication is not dispensed straight away ensure the date is within 6 months validity.
Restricted - no authority is necessary but there is a requirement on these meds from the PBS for dispensing.
Streamline - APN for S8 meds is the 8 digit authority number prompted by your dispense system which is on the residents medication chart. It will appear to chart changes for a new medication and on the residents medication chart.
If phone approval has been provided by the prescriber, the number will be visible in the medication chart.
NRMC medication chart needs to be reviewed a maximum every 4 months to be a valid for administration and dispensing. If the chart is overdue you will need to obtain a paper script for dispensing or contact the prescriber to review the chart prior to dispensing.
You are able to run a report on chart review dates: Reports > Resident Centric Reports > Resident Review Date List.

Every resident with a medication chart will have an Authority Prescription Number (APN) assigned to them.
- Click on Edit to add a concession number and/or DVA card number.
- Use the drop-down arrow to choose the identifier to add.
- Click on CTG to add this to the residents medication chart
