- Go to the resident's administration page and click on the PRN Medication tab.
- Find the correct PRN in the list and check the date and time of when it was last administered. To see what else has been administered:
- Click Show PRNs given in last 24 hours
Click Regular Medication > Show regular meds given today
Once you’ve noted the medications (meds) administered in the last 24 hours, click in your browser page to close the information.
- Once you administer the PRN meds, click Comment to record the details. For example, the dose administered if a range is charted.
- Enter the administration dose, reason, time, and any other relevant information.
Click the information icon to show the legend.
- The legend shows the scales to record the residents condition related to the PRN. Like pain and anxiety levels.
- If required, copy the scale you need, close the legend and paste it into the comment.
- Later when recording the outcome, enter scales again to monitor the PRN’s effectiveness and note observations for future patient care.
- Scroll down and click Administered. The PRN line turns green to help you see what you’ve administered.
- Now let’s record a PRN outcome, after checking the resident's condition.
There are two ways to record the outcome.
- Or click the medication name (in blue) on the resident’s PRN administration page. This method is useful for PRNs that work quickly.
- Click Add.
- Enter the outcome for the resident and any other relevant information, then click Save Outcome.
When you click the medication again, you can use View Outcome to check what's happened each time it was administered.
